Mirrored River
Bioremediation of heavy metal + Public art intervention
Mirrored River constructed by highly condensed material produced through the bioremediation process, symbolizing the dynamic relationship between the biotechnology and the contaminated environment issue that caused by leather consumption.
Our System
In 2018, demand for the leather in the world is nearly $215 billion, growth rate over 5% during the period 2019-2023
Pollution in Bangladesh
Estimated 22,000 cubic meters per day environmentally hazardous waste were dumped into the Buriganga River, Bangladesh. In 2013 the district was classified as the 5th most polluted place in the world.
Bio-solution
Sporosarcina pasteurr, a non-pathogenic soil bacterium is well known for its ability to precipitate metal ions through ureolysis, offering an opportunity to purify heavy metal contamination.
Living Machine System
A water treatment facility will use Sporosarcina pasteurii as a bio-filtration system besides the river. With the sand and leftover leather scrap as the media. The bacterium turns urea calcium and heavy metal into ammonia and metal carbonate precipitation. The filter conceals heavy metal elements, which gives more control over these pollutants
Exhibition

The precipitation will be exhibited among the upper stream countries where consumption largely took place in a public sculpture form. It exposes the cost behind the manufacturing process and invites the audience to contemplate the consequences of blind consumption.
